The way the real world works: female rules; male goes duhhhh. Posted by Hello

| Friday, January 28, 2005

You know how there are some days you just feel like shit? Yesterday was such a day. Some things you get so pissed at, yet you know you shouldn't, simply because that's the way the real world works dearie. Anyway, poor nat bore the brunt of my grumpiness last night, and today, tried to cheer me up with a surprise visit to east coast's pasta fresca al salvatore for dinner after work. :) And this was the place my korkor brought christine for their first date, that many many years ago when they were my age. (: Now, this kind of after-work-pick-me-ups, i can do with everyday hehe.

Sigh. I've been officially banned from going under the sun..until further notice. I still can't believe it. :(

The sun causes pigmentation, scarring, freckles, and now, so i hear from the doc, PIMPLES too. So, for my face's sake, no more tanning, no more canoeing, no more outdoor stuff. Nooooooooooooooooooooo.

I can't believe too that i took leave today specially to cook. And yesterday deserves some special mention because for the first time since our relationship started, nat came over for dinner with the family! And that's a big deal because it's my dad. And he's coming over tonight too to taste my first attempt at spaghetti. Hehe. So long as he doesn't behave like how i did when i tried nic's baked fish and puked it all out a few hours later (heeheehee nic................) i'll be a very happy girl.

Went to watch The Aviater with nic this morning, and for a whole long while, it was quite freaky cuz we were the only two in the theatre and they were screening the adverts for this new horror movie, 'Hide and Seek'. Brr. I was covering my face the whole time, and nic was, yes i forgot what nic was doing.

Sigh back to work tomorrow. If there's any such thing, i've got tuesday blues already. :(

Trying to eke out a living is hard. Week after week, incompetent ones in my company who are unable to meet a as-yet-undefined-sales quota are eliminated. It's brought all the pre-alevel pimples back out, and i'm getting more and more depressed each day. Looking at the mirror is temporarily pleasurable..when all you see is an irregular blob of brown staring back at you. That is, until the glasses and contacts come back on of course, and reality hits hard yet again. Why stay on in this job then? Bah. I want to tahan until my first pay check. Office hours are good too; i hate working irregular hours. Besides, saturdays and sundays are off-limits. As my colleagues say...weekends mean precious personal time with very personal people. Haha.

Each day leaves my tongue feeling extremely tired; forget about communicating meaningfully on weekdays. Yet, the strange thing is, i do enjoy my work. Closing each sale leaves me somewhat triumphant. :) And it's helping me brush up what little mandarin i have left. I have to give credit to mengjet, my sis' boyfriend, who didn't even recognise me over the phone when i called up to sell my credit line! He gave the excuse later that i sounded too professional. :)

Went to botanic gardens early this morning, and two little leeches attached themselves to me. So cute. I kinda regretted complaining of the increasing paunch in my tummy when nat forced me to do stomach crunches right after that. My parents treated us to McCafe's after that walk. :):) Went dear nic's house later on, where i was strangely glad to see her in her messy bedroom hair and victorian nightgown at 12-ish in the afternoon! We watched over 5 episodes of the simple life, and sigh, paris hilton does have a really great bod. :(

Time to go work out a bodytoning plan.............soon.

Stupid yong xiang! Saying that i have a buddhist face and that i look like a grass-eater. Grr.

Who likes macademia nuts? :) Pearly-white, juicy and sweet fleshies. I've decided to be a generous soul and share them. If you're a nut lover then just let me know and i'll pass you some. One catch though: hammer absolutely required. As well as lots of patience and pure brute strength. Using nutcrackers are not an option. They're still in their exotic little hard brown shells, flown all the way from nz. :)

" they scold u, scream into e phone and slam it .... e last one hurt ur ear drums...." Oh oh. I just got a vague idea of what my new job'd be like from clara. As everyone loves to tell me now: welcome to the real world.

Oh goody somebody finally wants me. Oh happy day! The crucial bit would be: do i sound good on the phone? Now's the time to cultivate a good low mellow voice. One that would be extremely persuasive. xian sheng, ni kuai dian mai leh, kuai dian kuai dian! lai lai, ru guo ni mai de hua, wo jiu qing ni chi fan la ok? Haha. Now that was being a mamasan.

Yes yes i owe this job all to eeling, i owe you a treat ok? :) With my first pay check, if and when i do get it.

I'm just finally glad to get off my arse at home. I want experience. Hmm. It's not hard to get a job you know. What's hard is getting the job to fit you. Like, most in the service sector want people who can work longterm, meaning at least a year, or if you want part-time or temp jobs, they want you working on weekends. Estee Lauder was cruel; wanting a compulsory 8hour day on sundays..sigh how to?! Still the idea of getting paid to learn how to do makeup, as nic said, it's the perfect temp dream job.

Yesterday was spent solely job-hunting, where nic was kind enough to accompany me. We went Body Shop (nah), Estee Lauder (nah), Kipling (sigh) and this job agency. Thereafter, went to meet nat, where i was a total of 17 mins late, and where i imagine he was seething so mad that he wouldn't talk to me. :) I guess by the time the coconut at east coast was eaten and gone, all was forgiven. Hehe.

13 going on 30 is so nice, i could watch it a dozen times over and over again. Ok i know it came out eons ago, but the whole idea of making wrong decisions in life, then being given the chance to go back in time to rectify em---it's a fantasy but yet what many i imagine wish were possible. It's exactly like that game-book everyone in primary school used to read; you know, you play the game with the book offering you choice A or B; choice A brings you to page xx and choice B brings you to page yy, so if you find you're dead cuz you chose B, you can always flip back to A and restart the game.

Aiyah i know; it's extremely long-winded. No matter how, tmr's my last day of bumming, and on to work! Hopefully i'll be a rich girl by feb. :) ok make that may. Or june.

Sighh. My tummy's oozy and flabby.

Recovered more or less from jet lag already. The first few days, namely wed and thurs, i was waking up at like 7-8am which is irritatingly early because it'd be like past noontime in nz! And i'm glad for the cool weather here now too; easy readjustment back to spore's sunny tropical climate. Haha. And oh since so many are asking like how was the trip and everything, and i have to keep repeating myself over and over like a radio, might as well put it up here:

In dec 2oo4, nz had the rainiest season in 5o years; it was raining 18 out of 30 days! And so tough luck, we had to be there at that exact year, exact month and bear the full brunt of the weather.
The WEATHER. Now the weather. It was bloddy cold, even for summer. Almost everyone came equipped for summer, with sleeveless tops, nice thin cottony shirts and so on. For one week, it was wintery; the wind blew and blew till the windows rattled noisily, and we froze and thawed constantly. It came to a point where i had to borrow my mum's pajama pants to wear inside my own pants (long johns), or else be a superhero and brave the cold which i wasnt very inclined to do. Plus no electric blankets at some motels meant hell nights.
Because of the high frequency of rains, there was a high level content of water vapour in the air. And what did the dratted water vapour condense to form? Lots and lots of clouds. There were so many clouds that we couldnt even see the peaks of the Southern Alps, let alone the full height of those mountains. And that cover of clouds lasted the whole stay. So ya, my much-anticipated want of taking nice photos of the alps leaves very much to be anticipated for the future (hopefully).
The complaints could go on and on, like having to share a toilet with 4-6 people most of the time, but there were good things too. (: Things like:
I got to spend time with my family including my two aunts and hear their own past love lives hehe. (:
I got to know uncle jones and auntie irene better, with all their interesting insights and stories they were constantly sharing with me and my sis in the car on those long boring trips.
I got to do shopping (!) where i found lots of good stuff i always knew i wanted but just never realised it.
I got to carry a wild baby bird, whose picture i posted in the previous entry, which got separated from its mother in a gale, and, and imagine my happiness when it actually went to sleep cuddled up in my hands!
I got to enjoy the beauty of nz, with my dad often stopping the car along the expressway whenever we sighted some particularly beautiful or unusual landforms/scenery etc to take photos. and there were LOTR locations too hehe.
I got nathan to appreciate me more while i was gone.
And so etcetera. Etcetera. And etcetera.

I can't cover 24 days' worth of travel, so this is the summarised version. It was good, it is over, and now i must find a job.

Which brings me to the empty promises of the working world. Bah ok so i'm still unemployed. Starbucks didn't call me back. But it's ok, i promise myself i'll find a job which pays me more than $3.6o per hour anyway. Tomorrow shall be a job-hunting day, which shall be done with a vengeance! I want money, i need money, and i shall have money...soon.

Yawn. It's been a long day and i'm tired. So night.

My computer mouse is weird, creepy. The little cursor thing will start inching slowly to the left on the screen even if im not moving the mouse. One good thing about being the youngest is that you get hand-me-downs... i got my dad's old laptop this time, and i'm happy cuz it's not even that old. :)

It seems like im getting into the adult world already, where everyone's esteemed based on the job they hold. Oh no getting a job was harder than i thought. I've until sunday to twiddle my thumbs and wait for that magic phonecall; until then, it's anxiety, accumulating fats and rotting at home. Even the mere cost of going out shopping is gonna blow a big hole in the pocket! I've decided to not be lazy anymore and walk home from simei mrt every chance i get, just to save that 60 cents. Sigh sunday come faster! I want to know if i have that job!

Job job job job job. Money money money money money. I am living in a material world and i am a material girl. Oh no help me drop that mentality! Then again, having a job=not having to rot at home.

Oh that reminds me, got to sign up at angmokio driving centre soon. My kind parents have agreed to lend me, interest-free, money for driving fees. :) and keep my allowance at the same amount. So technically i don't really need to work. That brings on a bigger smile! Less pressure to find a well-paying job then. But emphasises the little girl status.

Blargh currently, i just feel like an unemployed bum la. Talking to ppl on msn while they're either preparing to enlist already, or while they're at their offices is NOT fun. Coming back from nz to find nearly 80% of my friends working is not fun. The only one free to go out with me is nat--after work hours only. Sorry baby, you aren't exactly my last option though. :) The wisest thing to do now? Find a job. :)

Ok after that extremely ungrateful torrent of complaints, i realise this is also the time to do all the things i never had time for last year, like sigh talking to God more, being more involved in church again, meeting up with old friends and lots lots more. I guess there're so many missed activities i've forgotten how to enjoy them already, or that they even exist. I must start thinking hard about all the stuff i can and wanna do.

So that's it.

Till the day boredom overrides me again.

I'm back. :) and i'm unemployed. With crossed and double crossed fingers, i pray i'll have gotten a job by sunday. Prom pics are up. :)
